Why Limited Resources Can Make You More Creative
As the world gets faster and more sophisticated, we are more often exposed to the ‘newer and better’. As creatives, we tend to worry that we may not have the latest software, techniques or equipment.
We tell ourselves we’ll wait until everything is perfect before we make anything. We begin to think our best work will be on the other side of having better things to create with.
This pattern can go on for years. We can spend decades acquiring things, only to never actually start creating anything.
A simple solution for this, is by learning to be as effective as possible with what we have available to us. If a time comes and we can upgrade our resources, it becomes our extra capacity rather than our obstacle.
Sometimes the extra steps we have to take by not having the greatest tools can actually help us. In our perceived limitations, we end up becoming more creative. We are sometimes forced to find ways to achieve our desired results with less.
Many artists develop a distinctive style not because of what they have but because of what they don’t have available to them.
There will always be something more powerful to create with. It’s also very likely that many of the things that inspired you growing up were created with far less than we have now.
A creation only has to achieve its intentions.
Don’t worry so much about your tools.
Simply create, it will fall into place.
